Yes yet another state joins the ever growing lists of jurisdictions in North America that has banned all  motorists from texting while driving.  Pennsylvania is the 31st state to ban hand held texting devices while driving.  This new law will come into affect March 8, 2012.

of a bill that would ban texting and driving.   It easily passed in June and sent it to the desk of Gov. Tom Corbett, who is expected to sign it. The ban would take effect 120 days after Corbett signs it.

The bill made texting behind the wheel a primary offense so that police can pull over motorists for that violation alone. The penalty is $50. Police will not be allowed to seize the cell phone or other device.  Talking on a cell phone without using hands free is still legal in the state but advocates for distracted driving laws would like to see that changed.
