Summer is fast approaching and with that is the time of year that the CVSA and law enforcement around North America band together and have a blitz inspecting trucks and buses.  Yes it’s almost time for Roadcheck 2014, are you ready?

Roadcheck 2014 is  June 3-5, 2014

According to the CVSA website, during Road Check about 14 trucks or buses are inspected every minute in Canada, though the  United States and into Mexico.  Road Check enforcement includes about 10,000 CVSA-certified local, state, provincial and federal inspectors making this the largest enforcement program for commercial vehicles in the world.

Roadcheck 2013 highlights

  • Last year Roadcheck completed 73,023 truck and bus inspections
  • 24.1% of level 1 inspected vehicles were pulled out of service
  • 49.6% of vehicles put out of service were due to brakes
  • Out of 71,630 drivers inspected 4.3% were pulled out of service
  • 899 seatbelt violations were issued.

How to ace your Roadcheck inspection

First impressions do make a world of difference, they might not stop an inspection but it certainly doesn’t leave the impression your driver is careless and needs a deeper look see.

  • Make sure your vehicle(s) look clean and presentable and are in excellent condition.
  • Make sure your driver looks clean and presentable.
  • Make sure your paperwork is in order, neat and tidy.
  • Be sure your Drivers Daily Logs are up to date, neat and tidy.
  • Be sure your Drivers Daily Logs are accurate!
  • Be sure your truck binder is neat, orderly and up to date.
  • Take a moment and review it to be sure permits are up to date.
  • Make sure your driver did a vehicle inspection and everything is noted.

The MOST common equipment violations found during Road Check are:

  • Tire Tread
  • Brakes
  • Lights
