The Ontario Trucking Association (OTA) is calling on Ontario truckers to tell their MP’s that Ontario’s  70% license plate fee increase on commercial license plate  is to much!

OTA calls on Ontario carriers to stop Ontario's plate fee increase

Stop and take action now against the 70% plate fee increase!

Starting December 1, 2012 Ontario plans on increasing the plate fee for commercial vehicles by 30% and an additional 40% by next year.  While this is the first increase in 24 years it is a significant increase that will hurt carriers bottom dollar.

Carriers are reminded that IRP fees are based on a jurisdiction BASE plate fee for that weight of vehicle.  This means a base plate increase increases trucks prorating in Ontario under IRP.  That has an impact across North America under the IRP plan.

To have your say the OTA has made it easy by creating  a web page where you can fill in your information and submit it to your MPP as well as Ontario Transportation Minister, Hon. Bob Chiarelli, and the Ontario Finance Minister, Hon. Dwight Duncan.

The OTA also has a Twitter campaign #Stop70percent.
