This plate is about to cost a heck of a lot more. Can you beat the price increase?

As many carriers already know, Ontario has increased the price of commercial plates.  This Ontario truck plate increase has carriers scrambling because it is not just a little increase, it’s the first of two huge ones.

Ontario commercial plate to Increase by 70%

If you haven’t heard yet, Ontario has implemented plans to increase commercial plates by a whopping 70%.  Yes it’s not a typo, 70%.  While the province calls this modest truckers are calling it outrageous.  Some savvy carriers have been looking to save a few bucks before the first of two increases come into play.  How can they do it?

Renewing commercial plate early to save the increase

The first of two increases start on December 1, 2012 but for carriers whose plates expire within the next 3 months they have the option to renew now, in November and save the 30% increase!  One can expect to do the same next year to save the additional 40% increase, though you would be paying the 30% at that time.  Still that is better then nothing.

So if your one of the lucky carriers whose plates expire within the next 3 months, why don’t you see if you can renew them now and avoid the increase.  You should also mark your calenders for next year so you can do the same.

The OTA is also encouraging everyone to fight this.  They have made it easy for us to contact politicians and have our voices heard.  Do your part, hopefully together we can tell Ontario that modest is not 70%!
