California Air Resources Board or CARB just approved an extension to trailer fleet owners so they may  register their fleets in order to take advantage of CARB’s flexible phase-in option which will allow them to  comply with California’s Tractor Trailer Greenhouse Gas Regulation designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

California combats smog with Tractor-Trailer Greenhouse Gas Regulations

Fleets with 21 or more trailers  now have until August 1st 2011 to file a compliance plan with the state of California in order to take advantage of CARB’s flexible phase-in option.  This will give fleet owners until 2015 to slowly retro fit all their trailers to be compliant with new regulations.  If fleet owners do not register they must bring all of their pre-2011 trailers into compliance by January 1, 2013.

Fleets with 20 or less trailers still have until July 1, 2012 to file their compliance plan should they wish to take advantage of the option to  phase in retro fitting their trailers.

These new regulations affect all 53 ft trailers or longer box type trailers, including both dry-van and refrigerated van trailers operating in the State of California and the heavy-duty tractors that pull them regardless of where the vehicle(s) are registered.

Registration maybe done electronically or by mail.
