Canada ACI Emanifest soon to be mandatory
Canada Border Services Agency or CBSA is reminding highway carriers in Canada and the United States that ACI Emanifest compliance begins on November 1, 2012.
Canada’s Second Stage of ACI Emanifest Compliance
Canada is nearing it’s second stage of its Advance Commercial Information or ACI. This second stage will require all Highway Carriers to file electronic manifests, or Emanifests with Canada Customs at least one hour before reaching the border.
Carriers who fail to comply after November 1, 2012 will face a zero-rated (non-monetary) penalty.
Canada’s Third Stage of ACI Emanifest Compliance
Starting May 1, 2013, the third and final phase will begin in which carriers that do not provide eManifest to CBSA will be denied and face monetary penalties.
ACI Emanifest Filing Options
Carrier will have several options to file ACI Emanifests with CBSA starting with direct connection to CBSA, using the CBSA ACI portal directly, Customs Internet Gateway or third party service providers. Depending on the type of service you use, you may face different requirements, now is the time to start using Canada’s new ACI Emanifests in order to work out bugs that are sure to pop up before the crunch is on.
Carriers must now have a valid CBSA issued carrier code, the carrier code 77YY was eliminated on March 31, 2011. Some carriers might also need to obtain their “shared secret” in order to gain access to CBSA Emanifest.
